mysterious great-grandfathers

There is some mystery surrounding my great-grandfathers on my father's side - Earl Hyde and Frank Moorhead. Earl's mystery has been solved - we didn't know when he died. I've been able to track that date down through online records, and am now waiting for a copy of his death certificate to come in the mail from Ohio. I found that he died on November 6, 1919, in Washington County, Ohio. My grandfather Earl would have been 22 when he died. I've also found records of the family in the 1920 Federal Census. They all lived together in Marietta, OH - mother Nellie, son Frank, his wife and two daughters, and son Earl along with his first wife Coryinne. This first marriage didn't last long, because he married my grandmother Mary in 1925. The story is that Mary paid for Earl's divorce so she could marry him. That sounds like Grandmom!

Frank Moorhead is a mystery that is going to take a lot of work to solve. He was born about 1871, and married my great-grandmother Beryl Kline, who was born about 1877. My grandmother, Mary Frances Moorhead, was born December 10, 1899, in Newport News, VA. Per the 1900 Federal Census, Frank worked as a bartender in Newport News. Sometime after that they moved to Louisiana and Texas so Frank could work in the oil fields. The story taht has been told is that he dissappeared while they were in Texas. No one seems to know if he died, or just ran off. I've been searching for records of him under Frank Moorhead, but of course if he was planning on running off, he could have changed his name, his age, or anything. I've found a record of a Frank Moorhead (born in 1872), that was living in Erie, PA who was listed as a widower. Could this be him? I also found a listing for a Frank Moorhead born in 1847 in Washington, PA. This Frank was a Civil War veteran, and I know that Grandmom used to talk about someone in her family being a Civil War veteran. Could this be Grandmom's grandfather? This one is going to take a lot of work...

Next I'll post an update on the Crawford/Bieber families....
