I've done it....

Without the help of my missing family tree (the one I mentioned in an earlier post is missing), I traced the Hyde's back 27 generations to John de La Hyde, born about 1070 in South Denchworth, Berkshire, England, and died July 13, 1135 in the same place. During the 900+ years between John and myself, our name has changed a number of times. We've been known as Hyde, Huyde, De Huyde, De Hyde, and even De La Hyde. The name means...

(Locality). A farm; as much land as can be cultivated with one plow; a town of Cheshire, England. Hyd, or Hithe, a landing place, a haven, harbor.

So, I guess we are descendants of the original Hydes - most of the Hyde's on my list that are from England lived in Cheshire.

Pretty cool, I think.

If I'm feeling ambisious over the weekend, I'll type up the 27 generations from Dottie Jo Hyde to John De La Hyde. And then I'm on to the next branch....
